#EndorseThis: Trump Lies About Letting Japan Have Nukes, CNN Chyron Fact-Checks Him

This election is one for media innovation: The talking heads are using words like “lie” for the first time in years, The Huffington Post pins a disclaimer onto every Trump article they publish, and we’re even seeing the emergence, though slowly, of a novel technology called “follow-up questions.”

Exciting times.

Yesterday, CNN stepped their game up yet again. No, it wasn’t a topographical hologram of Donald Trump’s hair plugs. In fact, it was even more important: Fact-checking.

And not just any fact-checking: Chyron fact-checking. CNN managed to take the oldest, most reviled institution in cable news and turn it into something useful, for once. Here’s hoping we see more of this going forward. Turns out, television makes it remarkably easy to call a lie, a lie.
